About

I am an MS student at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, and an incoming (Fall 2026) PhD student at the Department of Physics, Washington University in St. Louis. I was seduced into science by the many wonders of astronomy, and it remains my passion ever since. My research is focused on planets orbiting other stars, specifically on atmospheric characterization of transiting exoplanets with fascinating instruments like the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes. I am also interested in exoplanet magnetism and the method of direct imaging.
Through various experiences I have realized that the essential requirement for me to deeply focus on a line of work is that I find meaning in it, that is,  I do not struggle to connect the problem at hand to the "big questions" of cosmos, such as the questions of the history and evolution of the universe, and the search for life outside of the solar system. The latter has proven itself to be my primary interest over the years. Therefore, trying to characterize known exoplanets and pondering smart ways of discovering others make up much of my day-to-day work.
In addition to my technical interests, nowadays, I am also interested in the philosophy of science and physics, and am trying to familiarize myself with different points of view. To that end, I am more than open to any suggestions in the form of books, articles, etc.

For any inquiries, academic or not, please do not hesitate to reach out. Oh, by the way, see that photo of the night sky at the top of the page? I took that!
